    Kitty Corner

    NEW ROMA BAKERY

    - A long-established Sacramento treat.

AND......Yes!, I do believe the title "Kitty Corner" for this journal entry is a bit too cute.

But it is an accurate description.

    AND...

at least I didn't use the letter 'K' replacing the letter 'C' for "Corner". No?

Artistic Summery of photo above: I really like the human element captured in this image.

-The woman striding along the store front and the gentleman swinging his truck door open.

I also enjoy the ghost-like quality of the potted marigold flowers and statuary in the forground.

The shot was taken from the balcony of my living space using a telephoto lens.

    NEW ROMA BAKERY

A closer look at this Sacramento Landmark.

I just love the old-school neon sign.

Most of the bread and pastries and cakes are prepared on location by an artistic and creative artisan baker named Tim. - A.K.A. The baker who bakes all sorts of treats on a whim. One never knows what one might find freshly prepared on the shelf each day. What a great way to keep folks slipping through the doors of this little gem-of-an-establishment.

Did I mention the out-of-this-world Italian Cannolis they offer?
(Click here to find wikipedia's definition for Cannoli)

If you're ever in town you must try this supreme bakery and deli out.

Yep, I did mention deli, you read that correctly! Roma's bakery has a fantastic deli that slaps meats and cheese and veggies together for the lunch bunch; Always serving the freshest high quality  ingredients.

    AND....

did I tell you the staff (The counter service all happen to be female.)

is extremely helpful, suggesting different types of donuts, desserts, and pastries and pies?

    AND...

...they are NICE! (Superb personal customer service!)

Author's Note: Did you realize some bakeries today don't create fresh dough and batters on site and other supposed (FRESH) items? Some so-called bakeries import frozen pre-made dough from big warehouses.

{Yuck!, not my cup-o-tea. AND....yes, perhaps one might call me a bread and pastry and pie and cake snob....

    AND

    ....I'm fine with that conclusional title and label. -Sometimes it's O.K.to be proud.}

Author's note to author: jenj, why didn't you take any photographs of the fine treats inside this corner cornucopia of breads, desserts and delights?

Author's reply to author: I just wasn't thinking. Perhaps I subconsciously creating anticipation for my next journal entry?

    -  All I recall about this photo shoot was slowly traveling towards New Roma's swinging door, taking lots of images from different vantage points,  finding myself inside the New Roma's doorway with wafts of fresh baked goods permeating my olfactory nerves and changing my brain chemicals (molecular chemistry happens!) Hypnotically, helplessly, indulging my inner-neediness (kneadiness--Get it?) with the purchase of THREE loaves of bread!

One loaf of (unsliced) Sweet onion rye.

One loaf of (unsliced) Eight grain sprouted wheat.

One loaf of (unsliced) Cinnamon walnut raisin.

    That's all folks!

Thanks for peeking at my zone today.

Expect pictures of New Roma's treats splashed upon my journal page in the near future.

    Good-bye & Good-day!

Long Tooth ************* A poem of pomander ************ So pleases the court of day.

Teeth and eyes were born through clove.

Once dressed house with zestful youth.

Tooth of clove long pushed out.

    Sun plays off drying skin.

    Bright set smile still remain.

    You Learn

After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
    And company doesn't mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
    And presents aren't promises,

And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,

And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

    After a while you learn...
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So you plant your garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure...

    That you really are strong

And you really do have worth...

    And you learn and learn...

    With every good-bye you learn.

    Didn't...

    - Didn't create the onion soup I was planning to prepare yesterday evening.

    Instead....

    Shared a ZELDA's Chicago style, deep-dish, Bisquick-type-crust pizza with a friend.
while listening to a horrendous storm bluster forth and around.

I'm NEVER disappointed with the Zelda's juicy combination pizza pie.
Here is a review I found:

Editorial Review for Zelda's Original Gourmet Pizza – by Angela Schurhoff

    The Scene
Ornery waitresses sling pie with plenty of attitude, but that doesn't scare away customers.
Just about everyone in Sacramento has filed through the doors of this hole-in-the-wall.
Dark and cavern-like, the dining room is covered in wood paneling, worn red carpet,
a black ceiling that sparkles and strings of Christmas lights that burn year-round.

    Onion Soup

    - Plan to make a batch of onion soup tonight for dinner.

Realize now why the coffee maker I purchased was sold for only $9.99.

The carafe STINKS! It piddles and puddles and spits and drips coffee everywhere when I pour a cup of coffee.
    Geeze! Such poor design!

I'm not much of a fan of coffee machines anyhow.
I like the pour-through method of coffee brewing or the French press method or ye old-fashioned perculated coffee.
I've got a really cool large glass Pyrex perculator
(how do you spell perculater?...purculate? percullate? purrculate?.....what am I missing?....Not getting it?!)

Words shmerds.....I leave proper spelling of these perky words to the spelling nerds. (Wish I were a spelling nerd.)

Forcast says STORMY weather for us over here in Northern California.

Good day and remember to be book-smart and hip to all the world that surrounds you.

Bless your body today- It's the vehicle you travel in.

Kozmo Kitty..........The poster puss for perilous activities. Don't smoke! Smoking is the gateway to a life of drugs and prostitution. Just say no! Even though you feel like sayin YES!

    Happy January 2nd 2008

    How is everyone today?

I'm enjoying 1/2 of a multi-seeded onion and garlic bagel with cream cheese and lox. (Mmmmm!)

I'm thankful to be alive and writing and sipping coffee this beautiful Wednesday morning.

Hey! How about you? What are you up to today? Any special plans? Any resolutions made for 2008 you'd care to share with me and the world?

Sometimes it's best to keep your special ideas and intentions to yourself.
Or let them be known to just a few core people in your life that will support you no matter how cockeyed your plan(s) might seem to be.

Don't need no JOY SNUFFERS or DREAM SMASHERS around.
    ------------------------------------------

It's fun when ideas and words or combinations of such pop into one's head.

For Example: "Electronic Papyrus" (Just came up with it!....POW!)

What does "Electronic Papyrus" say to you? What does it make you think of?

For those not familiar with the term/word Papyrus here is a link

    ------------------------
    On another note-

I have decided to check out a different type of Coffee house/ bakery / Cafe every week. (Maybe give a critique online?)
This list doesn't exclude wine tasting bars or fine restaurants or diners or even dive bars.

Lately, I've had the hankering to investigate
    (diners & dive bars)
places where food and beverages are served that aren't 'trendy' 'hip' or 'sheeeeeek'.

Good old fashioned diners and drinking holes!

---  I just want to experience the unknown.
Do something different and off the beaten path.
    Sit down and observe.
    Sketch.
    Write.
    Interact with the unfamiliar.
Breath in a new light of disorder to distract me from myself
    and
concentrate on a world with so many intricately simple innate sober seductions.

I want to soak it ALL in.

    NO BOUNDARIES!
    NO CONCLUSIONS!

Will travel to this place today. TEMPLE COFFEE (link)
Will travel as a pedestrian with camera in-hand and perhaps share with you my experience/critique/journey.

Traveled to this place last week: OLD SOUL CO. (link) Very much enjoyed the open-factory-warehouse feel.

Old Soul Co. was so laid back the employees (end-of-day-drink) were able/allowed to sip on wine.
Their glasses were set up on the food and beverage counters as they took orders.

They offer live jazz every Sunday!
    --------------

Gotta go.......gotta keep a pen and ink paper journal flowing this year. Gotta take care of some tasks I've put off for toooooo long.

    Gotta love life.

    I DO!

Hope you feel the same.....at least for a the moment.

    Let it be.
