November 27 Thanksgiving leftovers...
My lovely nieces, A & C.
My lovely niece, A
My lovely niece, C.
Abundance! Homemade pies made by my niece, A; her mom, and by Grandma, A.
These gals are very enterprising with their printed menus (Thanks to grandma A.) and putting out a tip jar. I'm sure these two have already spent what they earned as they were headed into Bless us all and help us heal from the consumption. ;0) Do any of you have special plans for the holidays or have special traditions you'd like to share with me? I would love to hear them. -jj
November 22 It's Thanksgiving day here in the U.S.A. May your day be deliightful and insightful where ever you live.
Wild Turkey Trot -The real thing! Photo taken in Winters, California located near Cache Creek. Peace to you and your family today and everyday. -jj
November 17 Feeling accomplishedToday I purchased a table at Ikea.
Set it up in 1.5 hours using power tools and I am extremely pleased with the result.
It is a perfect addition to my kitchen. It's longer than six feet and is as high as a kitchen counter. The top shelf is adjustable and the drawers can be pulled out from either side. POWER TOOLS ROCK! I enjoyed putting it together.
Chili peppers ROCK too!
with sprigs of Rosemary and Bay leaves and wrap them with bows to make some harvest sprays. What are you doing this weekend? November 16 Maybe we should all...Live life lightly and let it lift your soul. Embrace the unknown. Create some happiness and share it. ...eh? Thoughtfulness makes time and energy powerfully present. Employ yourself and don't lose a day. -jj November 15 Answer to my November 10th entry re: anonymous photo of the macho man and the movie he starred in.November 13 Sunflower Goddess'Traveling through my photo archive I found these snaps taken more than a year ago of me and my friend, Elaine. We were headed towards the coast for a day of fun and play when Elaine suddenly stopped the van we were traveling in and had us tromp into the fields of sunflowers to capture the beauty of it all. I'm glad Elaine had the inspiration and vision and acted upon her intuitive notion; makes me smile inside to see these pictures and remember the great day we shared together. Pleasure is as pleasure does. Ain't nature outstanding? It is diverse and unique yet unified. AMAZING!
Me amongst beauty.
Elaine, the beautiful.

And homeless near a thousand homes I stood, And near a thousand tables pined and wanted food.
--William Wordsworth Veterans make up 1 in 4 homeless people in the United States, though they are only 11 percent of the general adult population, according to a report just released. Too many veterans have no place to return home. On any given night, as many as 200,000 veterans are living on the street or in shelter. Most Americans underestimate how the problem of homelessness affects families. About 600,000 families and 1.35 million children experience homelessness in the United States. America's small towns and communities are not immune to the problem of homelessness. Almost 9 percent of our nation's homeless live in rural communities. Everyone finds transitioning to adulthood difficult, but homeless adolescents have even greater obstacles to overcome. Approximately 8 percent of American youth experience homelessness each year. Between 150,000 to 200,000 people are homeless for long periods or have repeated episodes of homelessness. The solution is permanent supportive housing. About ten percent of the unshielded homeless have at least one dog or cat. 744,000 homeless people in the U.S. 744,000 faces. 744,000 names. 744,000 reasons to act. November 06 Departure......More images of the November fifth homeless exodus from the Union Pacific Railroad land located on North B Street, Sacramento, CAOne man amongst many...
November 05 Under exposed and over exposed. An independent journalist (me) journaling about the homeless. Before the sun came up
mobile media antennas slowly sprouted from their retractable metal sheaths. The day had arrived...
For the unfortunate citizens living (trespassing) on Union Pacific Railroad land to vacate their make-shift homeless shelters by 6:00 A.M. before authorities came to arrest the inhabitants that might not comply with the legally passed ordinance.
News crews gathered on North B Street in Sacramento waiting to see what might take place as the minutes ticked past the 6:00 dead-line.
No sign of life moving around or emerging from the temporary nylon bungalows spread across the vacant lot.
As the sun rises so do a few tent dwellers. Not just another "ordinary" day for this young tenant. I spoke with her briefly and she said she hadn't a clue as to what she was going to do.
Michelle (above) was rolling a grocery cart filled with personal possessions down the road. Michelle was the first homeless person I spoke with (Michelle approached me) and was extremely articulate and forth-coming and well versed on the plight of the people.
As I listened to what Michelle had to say, Michelle's soft, kind, articulate "normal" dialogue began to shift into a defiant loud rage against the government and how the government was trying to have her murdered. Politely, I excused myself from Michelle's very detailed rant, letting Michelle know that I wished to be on my way to take more photographs. Immediately Michelle's eyes lit up and she asked me to take a photograph of her. I agreed to do so and Michelle quickly found a brush to make sure her hair was combed for her portrait. Part of the reason Michelle wished to be photographed was to document that she was still alive and proof- "Documenting she was still alive-before the government killed/kills her." (About 80 plus percent of all homeless people suffer from mental illness)
One never knows where one's path may lead. More images and information to be added to this entry later. Please drop back by. Peace before profit. Thanks for taking the time to come by the J-ZONE and feel free to leave a line or two. -jenj |
